Doctor Honoris Causa

The distinction "Doctor Honoris Causa" is granted by the Universidad Central according to the "Resolución No. 1986/2006". Through this institutional document, the University grants such a distinction to national and international outstanding people in the intellectual, scientific and artistic fields, are not members of our institution, but they receive this distinction by virtue of their merit, contributions to higher learning and its remarkable shares for the benefit of the Chilean nation or the world.

The Council of the University accepts the proposal that should be approved unanimously before being submitted by the Rector to the Board. This entity will be responsible for studying and reporting all the nominations to this recognition. The Board may also be advised by experts in the field or discipline of study of the applicant. After that, the Doctor Honoris Causa Distinction is granted.

From 2006 to up to now, the University has honored with the distinction "Doctor Honoris Causa " to the following remarkable people:

"To grant to Juan Somavia Altamirano the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University, for his outstanding national and international career that has greatly benefited our country in various activities and positions of global relevance".

He was honored with the distinction "Doctor Honoris Causa", for his outstanding professional and academic career.
